For gift-givers who like for there to be meaning behind their gifts, there are three possibilities that will benefit the America’s WETLAND Foundation’s efforts to replant the marshes.

A portion of the profits from these three gifts goes to support the America’s WETLAND Conservation Corps, which directs more than 650 volunteers in wetlands projects, including replanting the marshes.

The gifts that keep on giving are available online in time for Christmas.

Here are the three unique gifts that will help save the wetlands:

1. Holly Clegg’s trim&Terrific™ Gulf Coast Favorites Best-selling cookbook author Holly Clegg presents over 205 easy, healthy and delicious recipes from her Louisiana kitchen, all inspired by the Gulf Coast. They are quick, easy recipes that celebrate the abundance of fresh seafood and local ingredients that define the cuisine of the Gulf Coast.

The book also presents interesting facts about the importance of America’s WETLAND and the Gulf Coast region to America.

Clegg’s cookbooks are wildly successful – she has sold more than 850,000 – so “Gulf Coast Favorites” would have been a big seller without the attention to the wetlands. Because Clegg loves Louisiana – her home is in Baton Rouge – she wanted to help bring national recognition to the plight of the coast. So she dedicated a portion of the cookbook’s profits to the America’s WETLAND Foundation.

“It gave me the opportunity to showcase Louisiana and call attention to the importance of endangered sensitive ecological system that is so important to producing seafood as well as contributing to the energy supply. I wanted to call the nation’s attention to what the wetlands need at this critical time,” Clegg said.

In addition to giving the cookbook and helping the wetlands, Clegg suggests using one of the many recipes to give something from the oven.

“For a Christmas gift, you can’t beat something hot out of the oven, like my Chocolate Zucchini Bread of Sweet Potato Bundt Cake,” Clegg says. “Everybody loves a gift that keeps on giving.” She also suggests making some spare breads and keeping them in the freezer for those unexpected last-minute gift needs.

HOW TO BUY: Holly’s book can be purchased at leading bookstores, at www.amazaon.com, www.barnesandnoble.com, www.borders.com, www.booksamillion.com or for more information, go to info@hollyclegg.com.

2. Pelican Coast Neckwear’s Coastal Collection of fine silk ties.

Pelican Coast Neckwear is donating 20 percent of the proceeds from the sale of each necktie in their Coastal Collection to the America’s WETLAND Foundation. The donations will help in the effort to raise awareness and support for saving coastal Louisiana.

Owned by a fifth-generation New Orleans family, Pelican Coast ties are creatively designed, in a fun, yet conservative, original motif with ties featuring shrimp, oysters, pelicans and magnolias. The handmade 100 percent silk neckties combine fashion with the passion for saving Louisiana’s coastal wetlands.

“For more than a century my family has lived in New Orleans where my great grandfather began a history of philanthropy I am proud to continue today,” said Virginia Rowan, Founder of Pelican Coast Neckwear. “After Katrina, my family and I decided to start Pelican Coast Neckwear to help restore and create awareness for Louisiana’s precious wetlands.”

HOW TO BUY: Visit www.pelicancoastneckwear.com to purchase a Pelican Coast tie online, or look for the list of stores that carry Pelican Coast Neckwear nationally.

3. LSU Press’ “America’s WETLAND: Louisiana’s Vanishing Coast”

Award-winning photo essayist Bevil Knapp and the late Mike Dunne, veteran environmental writer for The Advocate of Baton Rouge and recipient of the America’s WETLAND Foundation’s Conservationist of the Year Award in 2007, authored this stunning book that chronicles life, nature and work in the wetlands. In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, it has become a poignant reminder of the importance of Louisiana’s wetlands to the way of life they support, and to the nation and the world as the importance of the wetlands as an economic treasure of world ecological significance.
