Mable Foreman was honored by the St. Landry/Evangeline United Way as the first Evangeline Parish recipient of the Women with Heart award.

Foreman accepted her award Thursday, February 28, at Opelousas General Health Systems. Foreman, who volunteers much of her time in the community, typically with a camera in her hands, was nominated by the City of Ville Platte. The nomination states, “Mable Foreman is truly a woman who has exhibited exemplary volunteer leadership, philanthropic spirit and service. In her own unassuming manner, she has beyond a doubt distinguished herself as a caring, compassionate philanthropist and community volunteer throughout Evangeline Parish.”

The nomination continued, stating, “Foreman’s vocation is health care. For the past 13 years, she has been employed as a patient care representative for the Ville Platte Home Health Agency. In her current position, she provides educational and community activities to increase awareness of the benefits of home health and to assist people in need, their families, as well as their local physicians in having their patients cared for in the comfort of their own homes.

“However, Foreman’s commitment extends far beyond the reaches of her profession. One of the numerous ways she helps others is through her photography. Mable has a love for photography and participates in community functions and documents them with her inspiring photographs. In fact, for the past 10 years, she has served as the unofficial city photographer under the tenure of three different mayors.”

Foreman has also been honored locally, being named Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce’s Woman of the Year in 2009, receiving the Mayor’s Award from Bill Jeanmard in 2010, being named Grand Marshal of the Louisiana Cotton Festival in 2010, receiving a Certificate of Appreciation from Mayor Jennifer Vidrine in 2012 and receiving a Community Involvement for Health Award from Cabrini Hospital of Alexandria for her efforts in the health field.
