EUNICE - Funeral services were held for Mattie Fontenot Veillon, 95, of Eunice, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Eunice at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 25. Burial followed in the St. Paul Cemetery.

Ms. Veillon died Friday, July 20, 2012, at Bayou Vista Nursing Home in Bunkie. She was a lifelong caregiver. As the eldest child, she helped her mother with the care and upbringing of her six siblings. She was a surgical and floor nurse at the old Eunice Hospital located at Park Avenue and Seventh Street and later at Moosa Memorial Hospital. She retired to a private duty practice and later continued to be a caregiver as a Pink Lady volunteer. She was also a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Eunice and a member of the Catholic Daughters. Her departure will be deeply felt by her family.

Survivors include one son, Willie W. “Bill” Ardoin Jr. and his wife, Kay, of Ville Platte; one brother, Dewey Fontenot of Lake Charles; one sister, Winnie Ortego, of Ville Platte; one son-in-law, Bill H. Ledford of Raleigh, North Carolina; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husbands, W.W. “Bill” Ardoin Sr. and Bussie Veillon; her step-children, Elsie A. Texada, Joseph Ellis Ardoin and Verna Rae “Bobbie” Ardoin Ledford; her siblings, Edward Fontenot, Jeffery Fontenot, Laddie F. Cefalu and Lana F. LaFleur; and her parents, Joseph Fontenot and Amy Perron Fontenot.

Father Nathan Comeaux officiated.
