We live in a very competitive society, and many of our fathers are teaching their children not only to compete but that “winning” is everything. We see this on the sports field and in various occupations of life, but one thing is missing from the upbringing of many children and that is their instruction in the knowledge of the things of God. The Bible tells us in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” We have a responsibility as parents to direct them toward Christ. The spiritual disposition of their souls is of the utmost importance.
And fathers, we must not only teach our children about the things of God, we must live it before them. Too many fathers today subscribe to the philosophy, “Do what I say, not what I do.” But the reality is that your children are more likely to do what they see you do rather than what they hear you say.
Ultimately, we will stand before the Lord to give an account of what we have done with the responsibility that He has entrusted us with, that is the care and upbringing of His little ones. Let’s make sure we have done our utmost to guide them to Christ.
