LSUA Generals getting things started this week

LSU Alexandria hosted Texas College in its season-opening baseball game Tuesday (Feb. 1) with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Generals Field, according to athletic director and baseball coach Dan Purvis. The Generals, who participate as an NAIA independent, have scheduled 55 games.

LSUA will be on the road for seven games after the opener before starting a four-game home stand Feb. 18. The Generals have a 23-game home schedule over 15 playing dates in the second season at their new on-campus facility.

LSUA and Louisiana College will meet three times. Two games are scheduled in Pineville, Feb. 8, and April 11, and the Generals will host the Wildcats on March 21.

The Generals, who are entering their fourth season of intercollegiate competition, have participated in NAIA post-season play the past two years. This year’s qualifying tournament for independent schools is in Thomasville, Ga., May 4-8. The national championship opening round is May 12-16, at a site to be determined, and the Avista-NAIA College World Series May 27, through June 3, in Lewiston, Idaho.

Season tickets for LSUA baseball are $60, and they may be purchased through Purvis at 473-7586 or dpurvis@lsua.edu.
