The Pine Prairie Panthers tangle with the LaSalle Tigers in week one of the regular season. The two teams are coming off of tough battles in their respective jamborees. The Panthers played tough and battled two tough teams in Sacred Heart and Mamou. While the Panthers were not victorious, they were able to gain some game experience and prepare for the regular season.

The Panthers used a complete spread offense in the jamboree. Look for them to do the same thing again this week against the Tigers. LaSalle has good speed so the PPHS boys will have their work cut out for them. Quarterback Chris Bradley did the best he could last Friday night. While the PPHS offensive line seemed overwhelmed at times, they never gave up the fight. Running backs Haas Campbell and Maverick Fontenot did outstanding jobs taking the ball through the lines. The running duo could help to slow down the Tigers tomorrow night.

The turnover bug bit the Panthers hard in the jamboree. Each and every time it seemed the PPHS boys could get a drive going, a fumble or turnover caused the drive to cease. This will have to be fixed as the season goes on. The Panthers are talented but no team can survive on the amount of fumbles they dealt out. Look for first-year Head Coach James Shiver and his staff to work diligently to make this correction as they head into tomorrow night’s contest.

The Panthers’ defensive unit never really got a chance to catch its breath last Friday night. They constantly found themselves having to race back on the other side of the ball due to the turnovers. With some adjustments, the Panthers just maybe able to keep the Tigers away from the ball and earn a week one victory. Coach Shiver and his group would love nothing more than to start the year off with a 1-0 record.

Game time is set for 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Pine Prairie’s Football Stadium.
