Laura Doucet, at right in photo, left Ville Platte, and more than enough sorrow for one lifetime, 31 years ago. “After the nightmares and the flash backs, I finally said, ‘This did happen.’ I was suppressing... suppressing... just suppressing,” said Doucet, who now lives in Houston, Texas. She came back to Ville Platte to sign copies of her just-published book, “Wounds For Love Comes

Tragic and Painful; The Shocking True Story of Laura Doucet.” While waiting for her book to be signed, Mayor Jennifer Vidrine, at left in photo, said she read the book once and plans to read it again. The mayor told others at the book signing Friday, June 15, “It’s her story of personal strength... And survival,” adding, “She had no support, and she had not told her story in 31 years.” Vidrine said Doucet did not have the benefit of clinical treatment. “She went to Dr. Jesus,” the mayor said. The brief description on the back cover -- the endpiece -- summarizes the three failed suicide attempts and how the cemetery became her favorite place to visit, for hours, because, “It was where the people who loved me most were.”
