Biden, Trump win; Garcille is elected

The two front runners in this year’s presidential election overwhelmingly carried the parish in the Presidential Preference Primary, which was held Saturday, March 23.
Joseph R. Biden Jr. received 307 votes, which was good enough for 72%. Marianne Williamson finished in second place with 36 votes, which was good for 8%. Turnout on the Democratic side was 4.7%.
Biden received 14 of 17 votes at Precinct 1020 (Faubourg Fire Station), 29 of 33 votes at Precinct 1110 (Martin Luther King Center), 16 of 16 votes at Precinct 1120 (Lincoln Road Fire Station), 10 of 11 votes at Precinct 1160 (School Board Building), 10 of 10 votes at Precinct 3020 (American Legion Hall) and 15 of 18 votes at Precinct 3060 (Celestine Neighborhood Center).
For the Republicans, in Evangeline Parish, Donald J. Trump collected 807 votes, which was good for 97%. Nikki Haley received 13 votes, which was good for 2%. Turnout was 11%.

Technical College), 33 of 34 votes at Precinct 1140 (Evangeline Parish Library), 25 of 25 votes at Precinct 1150 (Belaire Cove Fire Station), 39 of 39 votes at Precinct 2010 (WC Read Fire Station), 13 of 13 votes at Precincts 2030 and 2040 (St. Augustine CCD Building), 16 of 16 votes at Precinct 3010 (Vidrine Fire Station), 13 of 13 votes at Precinct 3030 (Maison D’Aigette), 30 of 30 votes at Precinct 3040 (Vidrine Fire Station), 16 of 17 votes at Precinct 3050 (Chauncey Pitre Multipurpose Building), 43 of 45 votes at Precinct 4001 (Pine Prairie Community Center), 11 of 12 votes at Precinct 4010 (Pine Prairie Community Center), 16 of 16 votes at Precinct 4020 (Beaver Fire Station), 52 of 53 votes at Precinct 4030 (Friendship Baptist Church), 17 of 17 votes at Precinct 5004 (Turkey Creek Community Center), 33 of 33 votes at Precinct 5010 (St. Theresa Church Hall), 18 of 18 votes at Precinct 5020 (Bayou Chicot Fire Station), 38 of 39 votes at Precinct 5030 (Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department), 37 of 37 votes at Precinct 5040 (Turkey Creek Community Center), 24 of 24 votes at Precinct 5041 (Bayou Chicot Fire Station), and 17 of 17 votes at Precinct 5050 (Clearwater Fire Station).
In other returns, Chataignier High School graduate Laura Rougeau Garcille was elected district judge of the 27th JDC Division B. She received 57% of the vote ahead of Jessica Wimberly Marchand’s 23% and Caleb Kent Aguillard’s 19%.
